Programs & Services
VSEDC’s manages various programs to fulfill the mission of stimulating economic development. The following list provides an overview of our services:
VSEDC manages the Business Enterprise Center (BEC), a 10,000 square foot business incubator that houses its Entrepreneurial Training Program, and Technical Assistance that has trained over 1,000 small businesses since inception. In addition to the business training and supportive services at the BEC, VSEDC was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to foster entrepreneurship among low-income residents of Los Angeles, especially those on public assistance. To implement this program, VSEDC maintains a partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public and Social Services to identify clients with specific skills who are looking for work and may pursue self-employment through entrepreneurship.
VSEDC has partnered with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and the LA City Council District 8 to implement a community outreach program aimed at increasing awareness of water and electricity conservation. VSEDC will partner with local community groups to spread this public service message in South Los Angeles.
Further adding to the movement to encourage environmental awareness, VSEDC has also created a green-specific class for entrepreneurs who desire to tap into the burgeoning field of green business. This class encourages budding entrepreneurs to create green products and services, as well as how to green the operations of existing businesses. The program also consists of partnerships with local organizations currently offering job training programs in green sectors.
VSEDC led the development and maintains management functions for various commercial/industrial projects. The Vermont-Slauson Shopping Center and Vermont-Slauson Retail Center are flagship developments accomplished by the organization.
Management of portfolio of apartment complexes for low-income residents, and housing rehabilitation project in conjunction with the Los Angeles Neighborhood Housing Services Program.
Community Services and Outreach
Beyond our core initiatives, VSEDC also promotes community well-being and empowerment through participation in the California Endowment’s Building Healthy Communities Collaborative, charitable giving to local schools during the winter holiday season and support of various community organizations.
